Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two suspected smugglers with 7,450 banned Indian Tapentadol tablets and a motorized boat at the Porsha-Nitpur border in Naogaon on Tuesday afternoon.
The arrestees were identified as Abdus Salam, 34, and Anarul Islam, 25, both residents of Nitpur Master Para.
Acting on a tip-off, a BGB patrol team from the Nitpur Border Observation Post (BOP), led by Naib Subedar Mohammad Ali, conducted the raid in the Nitpur Diyarapara area. The operation took place around 4:15 PM, approximately 200 yards inside Bangladesh territory near border pillar 230/10S.
The BGB seized the contraband pills and the engine-powered boat, with a combined estimated value of Tk 11.97 lakh. During the raid, four other suspects—Selim, Mohammad Al Amin, Rabiul, and Nuru—managed to flee the scene.
Naogaon Battalion (16 BGB) Commander Lt. Col. Mohammad Ariful Islam Masum confirmed the arrests. He stated that the suspects and the seized items were handed over to the Porsha Police Station. A case has been filed against both the arrestees and the absconding suspects under the Narcotics Control Act.
Lt. Col. Masum reiterated the BGB’s commitment to strict, ongoing operations to prevent border smuggling, including the illegal cattle and drug trade, across the Naogaon and Chapainawabganj frontiers.
