


Police have arrested a man for allegedly murdering his wife while visiting her parents' home in Kashiani, Gopalganj. The victim, 28-year-old Borna Khatun, was found dead beside a pond behind her father's residence. The accused, her husband Al Amin Bepari, also known as Alamin (37), was arrested from Faridpur within 12 hours of the murder case being filed.
According to police, Al Amin Bepari is the son of Nur Islam Bepari of Raghunandapur under Kotwali Police Station in Faridpur, while the victim, Borna Khatun, was the daughter of Mizanur Rahman Munshi of Dhankora South Para under Kashiani Police Station in Gopalganj. The couple had been married for 14 years and had one son and two daughters. Police said Al Amin frequently abused and physically assaulted his wife over family-related issues.
According to the investigation, on July 4, 2026, at around 11:00 a.m., the couple, along with their children, visited the victim's parental home. On July 6, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Al Amin allegedly called his wife to the back of the house. Police believe that between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., he killed her and left her body beside the eastern bank of a pond in an apparent attempt to conceal the crime before fleeing the scene.
Police said the couple's son, Israfil, saw his father running toward the road carrying a wet lungi, towel, and vest. After the child raised an alarm, family members rushed to the pond and found Borna Khatun's body lying near the water with an orna wrapped around her neck. Officers from Kashiani Police Station later recovered the body, prepared the inquest report, and sent it to the morgue of Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital for an autopsy.
A murder case was subsequently filed at Kashiani Police Station. Under the supervision of Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Md. Borhan Uddin conducted a raid and arrested the accused from Kotwali Police Station area in Faridpur within 12 hours of the case being registered.
The accused was produced before the court on July 7, 2026, and his statement was recorded under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, according to police.
