A local Jubo Dal leader has died in Dhaka while receiving treatment for injuries sustained during a violent clash over a land dispute in Tangail’s Kalihati upazila.
The deceased, 40-year-old Shah Alam, was the president of Ward No. 2 Jubo Dal and the son of Ali Azgar from Durgapur Madhyapara village.
According to local sources, the clash stemmed from a long-standing boundary dispute over an Akashmoni tree plantation in the Uttarpara area of Ramdevpur, involving the families of Naba Sutar and Badsha Mia. The tension escalated into a violent confrontation on Monday (June 15) evening, leaving Shah Alam and several others critically injured.
Alam initially received local medical care, but as his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Bangladesh Medicare Hospital in Dhaka. He succumbed to his injuries around 1:00 am on Tuesday (June 16). His body was returned to his village on Wednesday morning, casting a shadow of mourning over the community.
Kalihati Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Abdus Salam confirmed that law enforcement intervened to prevent further violence. "We are on high alert, but the situation in the area is currently normal and under control. Police remain deployed at the scene," he stated.
