Shopkeepers in Paikgachha municipal market have sought administrative intervention following allegations that fruit stalls set up on the road are blocking permanent business establishments.
Abdul Khalek Sardar, a local shop owner, filed a formal complaint with Municipal Administrator Wasiuzzaman Chowdhury on Wednesday. Sardar claims that a fruit vendor, Lutfar Sana, has positioned his stall directly across the entrance to his shop, preventing customer access and causing significant financial losses.
The complainant stated that despite repeated requests to relocate the stall to a less obstructive position, the vendor allegedly responded with verbal abuse and threats. Sardar noted that local trade leaders from the Sholaana Traders Cooperative Society tried to mediate the dispute, but the vendor refused to comply with municipal regulations.
Other small-scale footpath traders, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed concern that such disputes are damaging the reputation of all street vendors. Following the filing of the complaint, the accused vendor reportedly vacated or covered the stall temporarily.
The municipal administration is expected to review the matter to ensure the free movement of customers and adherence to market bylaws.
