A key road leading to Soladana from the Paikgachha Shibsa Bridge in Khulna has remained severely damaged for a long time, causing daily hardship for thousands of commuters.
The 250-meter stretch from the base of the bridge to the Motor Stand intersection is almost unusable. Large potholes and scattered bricks have turned the busy road into a hazardous route. Even light rain fills the holes with water, increasing the risk of accidents.
Residents from Dakop, Batiaghata and nearby areas rely on this road for daily travel. It is also a vital route for people from Soladana, Laskar, Deluti-Lata and Garikhali. Despite regular movement of vans, motorcycles, easy bikes and local vehicles, the road’s condition continues to worsen.
Locals say the damage began during construction work on the Baintala Bridge, when heavy vehicles regularly used the road. Since then, no significant repairs have been carried out.
Frustration is growing among residents, who question why the responsible authorities have not taken action despite the road’s importance. They warn that a serious accident could occur if repairs are delayed further.
Upazila Engineer Shafin Shoaib said the road falls under the Roads and Highways Department. He added that the tender process for repairs is underway and there is a possibility of at least partial repair before Eid-ul-Adha.
However, locals say they want immediate work on the ground, not just official assurances.
