The Road Department has launched a nationwide tree plantation initiative aimed at environmental conservation and highway beautification.
The program was officially inaugurated at 11:30 AM on Wednesday along the Dhaka-Khulna Highway (N-7) in the Badarpur area of Faridpur city. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Kamrul Hasan opened the event by releasing balloons and planting fruit saplings.
According to Khalid Saifullah, Executive Engineer of the Faridpur Road Department, the project involves planting various fruit, forest, and medicinal species across vacant roadsides and highway dividers.
"This initiative will restore ecological balance while transforming our highways into green corridors," Saifullah stated.
Speaking as the chief guest, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized that large-scale afforestation is the primary defense against climate change. He urged the public to protect these new plantations, noting that collective care is essential to building a sustainable and green Bangladesh for future generations.
Senior engineers Asaduzzaman and Anwar Hossain, among other officials, were also in attendance.
