Twenty talented students from various departments under the Faculty of Environmental and Natural Sciences at Gazipur Agricultural University (GAKRIB) have recently been selected for the prestigious international scholarship awarded by Japan’s Nagao Natural Environment Foundation (NEF).

To mark the occasion, a ceremony was held on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the university’s Academic Council Room, where the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. GKM Mostafizur Rahman, handed over the scholarship cheques to the awardees.

A total of 20 undergraduate students from different levels received the scholarship; each awarded BDT 37,000 annually for three consecutive years. The NEF scholarship is granted to students who are dedicated to research and studies in areas such as environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable agriculture and forestry management within their home country. Through this achievement, GAKRIB students have taken a significant step toward contributing to global research and leadership in environmental conservation.

The event was graced by the presence of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. GKM Mostafizur Rahman, as the chief guest. The Treasurer, Professor Dr. Md. Safiul Islam Afrad, attended as a special guest. Among others, deans of various faculties, directors, the Proctor Professor Dr. Mohammad Saiful Alam, senior faculty members, and the scholarship recipients were also present.

The program was presided over by Professor Dr. Md. Amzad Hossain, NEF Bangladesh Committee Coordinator and Director of International Affairs at the university.

While congratulating the scholarship recipients, the Vice-Chancellor said,“This achievement by our students is a matter of great pride for Gazipur Agricultural University. It demonstrates that we are not only excelling in theoretical knowledge but also taking a leading role in practical, research-based studies.”

He further encouraged the students to engage more actively in environmental protection.

The Nagao Natural Environment Foundation (NEF) is a Japanese non-governmental organization that, apart from awarding scholarships, has long been contributing to environmental protection in developing countries, including Bangladesh, through international seminars and various collaborative initiatives.
