Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) celebrated the 56th Independence and National Day on Thursday (March 26) with deep respect and a festive atmosphere.

The day’s proceedings commenced at 7:00 AM with the hoisting of the national flag at the university's historic 36th of July Square, followed by an orderly march past. At 10:00 AM, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. GKM Mostafizur Rahman led a colorful "Joy Rally" involving teachers, students, and staff. The procession concluded at the Central Shahid Minar, where the Vice-Chancellor placed a wreath to honor the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War. Tributes were also paid by the Teachers' Association, university schools, residential halls, and various employee unions.

Following the floral tributes, a discussion on the significance of the day was held, chaired by Director of Student Welfare, Professor Dr. Mohammad Sharif Raihan.

Key university officials attended, including Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. Mainul Haque, Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Shafiul Islam Afrad, and Registrar Md. Abdullah Mridha. In his keynote address, Vice-Chancellor Dr. GKM Mostafizur Rahman paid tribute to the proclaimer of independence, the late President Ziaur Rahman.

Reflecting on the nation's journey, the Vice-Chancellor noted that after a 17-year period of autocratic rule ended with the July 2024 mass uprising, a "new wind of democracy" is now prevailing. He urged the university community to support the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, noting that the administration's election manifesto for development is already showing tangible results.

Dr. Rahman also highlighted GAU’s international recognition in research and education, reaffirming the administration's commitment to further academic excellence. The day concluded with special prayers at the university central mosque for the martyrs and the nation's continued prosperity.
