The nomination papers of two independent candidates for Pabna-1 constituency in the 13th parliamentary election have been declared rejected.

The two whose candidacies were rejected are Khairun Nahar Khanam, former convener of Santhia Upazila BNP, and Yunus Ali, vice-president of the Central Tanti Dal.

Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer Shahed Mustafa made the announcement at the conference room of the Pabna Deputy Commissioner on Friday (January 2) afternoon.

Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Shahed Mustafa said that a total of 7 candidates filed nominations for the 68 Pabna 1 constituency. Among them, the candidacy of independent candidate Khairun Nahar Khanam was rejected due to errors in the supporting voter list, including the signature.

In addition, another independent candidate Yunus Ali claimed to be a BNP candidate in his nomination, but his candidacy was canceled due to lack of certification from the party chief. This candidate also has signature and informational errors in the list of supporters. The canceled candidates can appeal to the Election Commission between January 5 and 9, the official said.

The total number of voters in this constituency, which consists of four unions and one municipality in Santhia and Bera upazilas, is 340,931. BNP nominated candidates in the constituency are former Santhia Upazila BNP General Secretary VP Shamsur Rahman, Jamaat-e-Islami Barrister Nazibur Rahman Rahman Momen and Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Abdul Gani. In addition, Jubo Dal central committee member Masudul Haque and former State Minister for Information Professor Abu Sayyid are independent candidates.

The Returning Officer declared their candidacies valid as there were no errors in the submitted nominations.
