A government-supported fertilizer and seed distribution program was inaugurated in Ishwardi upazila, Pabna, on Tuesday (October 14) to support small and marginal farmers during the winter cultivation season.
The event took place at 11:00 AM on the premises of the Upazila Agriculture Extension Department. According to the department, a total of 1,000 farmers from eight unions of Ishwardi received seeds of various winter vegetables suitable for homestead gardening. Fertilizers were also distributed to assist with crop maintenance and growth.
The program was presided over by Ishwardi Upazila Agriculture Officer Abdul Momin, while Ishwardi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Moniruzzaman attended as the chief guest.
During the distribution, a marginal farmer from Asna village in Sara Union, Adam Ali, voiced concerns about the quality of the fertilizers provided under government incentives. He claimed that the DAP fertilizer distributed by the upazila office often fails to increase crop yields and only alters the appearance of plants. He urged authorities to ensure that future incentives are truly farmer-friendly and also requested attention to the supply of Potash fertilizer (MOP) for better productivity.
Among others present at the event were Upazila Project Director Shihab Uddin, Fisheries Officer Abdur Rahman, and Livestock Officer Aklima Khatun.
