Public Hearing Held in Shantiganj Haor to Form PIC for Crop Protection Dams

A public hearing was conducted in Shantiganj Upazila of Sunamganj to facilitate the formation of the Project Implementation Committee (PIC) responsible for the construction and repair of crop protection dams in the haors (wetlands) under the Joykals and West Pagla Union Water Development Board.

To involve local farmers in the process of forming the PIC to ensure that genuine farmers are selected for the committee responsible for the dam construction/repair work.

On the banks of the haor north of Astma village in Joykals Union on Friday at 3:30 pm. Upazila Executive Officer Mohammad Shahjahan, who also serves as the Chairman of the Upazila Kabita Scheme Formulation and Implementation Monitoring Committee.

The hearing was directed by Water Development Board Branch Officer (SO) Moniruzzaman. Crop protection dams are set to be constructed/repaired across the haors in Joykals and West Pagla Unions through a total of 18 projects.

The Water Development Board received 34 applications from farmers related to these 18 projects. Upazila Fisheries Officer Kamrul Hasan, Upazila Agricultural Extension Officer Mofazzal Hossain, and Joykals Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Basit Sujan addressed the public hearing.

The event saw the presence of numerous local journalists (including the President, General Secretary, and Organizing Secretary of the Shantiganj Press Club), UP Members, former UP Members, and other locals.
