The body of Saudi expatriate Mohsin Kabir was exhumed from his family graveyard in Matlabpur village, Lakshmipur, on Monday (December 8), two months after his initial burial.
The action was taken to facilitate an autopsy at Chittagong Medical College as part of an investigation into a case filed in Saudi Arabia and later in Bangladesh regarding his alleged abduction and murder.
Mohsin Kabir, the son of Maulana Md. Nurullah, was working at a travel agency in Saudi Arabia when he was kidnapped on August 17 following a long-standing conflict over a land transaction with the agency's owner, Morshed Alam
His body was recovered by Saudi law enforcement agencies shortly after the kidnapping and brought back to Bangladesh on September 2. Suspecting their relative had been brutally murdered rather than dying naturally, Mohsin's wife, Rawshan Akhter filed a case with Sadar Model Police Station on October 22, naming Morshed Alam, his wife Roksana Akhter, and two relatives (Md. Hasib and Md. Raihan) as accused.
Executive Magistrate Abhi Das confirmed that the exhumation was carried out by court order in the wake of the murder investigation. The body was transported to Chittagong for forensic examination and will be reburied afterward.
