Two individuals lost their lives in a boat capsizing while traversing the Padma River for agricultural purposes in a small fishing vessel in Bheramara, Kushtia. Local residents managed to rescue two of the injured.

The deceased included A: Rashid (60), son of the late A: Gafur from Islampur village in the Mokarimpur union of Bheramara upazila, and Mamun Hossain (27), son of the late Sharafat Hossain, also from the same village. The injured were identified as Shariful Islam (40), son of the late Siraj Uddin from the same village, and Md. Ifsuf (36), son of the late Palan.

Survivor Shariful Islam recounted that Abdul Rashid and Mamun had set out to plant sugarcane on their land, as they did daily. Since the land was located on the opposite side of the river, they used a small boat to cross. On Tuesday morning at 9 am, the four of us were crossing as usual, but after traveling a short distance, the boat suddenly tilted and water began to rise. Before we realized it, we were all submerged. We desperately tried to save ourselves. Suddenly, I felt the ground beneath my feet and managed to reach the shore, but I lost consciousness. I could hardly endure witnessing such a tragedy unfold before me. Abdul Rashid (60), son of the late Abdul Gafur from Islampur village in Mokarimpur union of Bheramara upazila, and Mamun Hossain (27), son of the late Sharafat Hossain from the same village, perished in the incident. Eyewitness Imran Hossain stated that they were also waiting to cross the river and intended to follow them, but as soon as the boat moved a little further, it suddenly rocked and sank. I and a few others quickly jumped in to rescue Mamun and Rashid Chacha, whose conditions were critical. We risked our lives in an attempt to save them. Local UP member Shariful Islam Roni expressed that upon hearing about the accident, they rushed to the scene, and what they discovered was indeed a tragic event, leaving the community in deep sorrow over the loss of two individuals from the same village.

Bheramara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Abdur Rob Talukder stated that when Rashid and Mamun Hossain were retrieved from the Padma River and brought to the Bheramara Upazila Health Complex, the attending physician pronounced them dead.
