Seven-year-old Nuria Khatun remains missing two days after a riverbank collapsed into the Padma River on Wednesday afternoon.
Nuria, daughter of Ashiq Sheikh from Juniyadah village, was playing with eight-year-old Jamila Khatun on geo-bags placed for erosion control in the Bhurkapara area. Suddenly, the unstable ground gave way, plunging both children into the river. While Jamila managed to scramble to safety and alert locals, strong currents quickly swept Nuria away.
Search and rescue operations are actively underway. Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khaledur Rahman confirmed that local police, the Bheramara Fire Service, and the Ishwardi Naval Police are conducting a joint search mission.
Shariful Islam, in-charge of the Bheramara Fire Service Station, stated that the river's heavy currents are complicating the search, but rescue teams are utilizing maximum efforts to locate the missing child. Local residents continue to assist authorities in scanning the riverbanks.
