BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman emphasized today that while differences of opinion are natural in a democracy, they must not escalate into conflict. Speaking at an exchange of views with senior editors and journalists at Hotel Sheraton in Banani, he urged political stakeholders to prioritize dialogue over vengeance.
"The nation witnessed the consequences of retaliation on August 5, 2024," Tarique Rahman stated. "Even when we disagree, we must reduce gaps through discussion. Differences should never reach the level of conflict."
He acknowledged that while the country faces significant hurdles, the democratic process must be protected. "We do not want to return to the era before August 5. Everyone must work together, putting aside minor differences for the greater good of the nation."
Reflecting on his recent travels across Bangladesh, the BNP Chairman noted that the youth are looking for direction. He asserted that if politicians focus on protecting national sovereignty and independence, they can successfully guide the country toward a brighter future.
Addressing concerns about public safety, he noted that security is a universal need. Highlighting the "abnormal" rate of road accidents—citing 7,000 deaths last year—he called on political leaders to investigate the root causes of such systemic issues.
Tarique Rahman announced that the BNP will launch its official electoral campaign on January 22, taking its message directly to the people. He promised that a BNP-led government would prioritize: Employment Generation: To ensure economic achievements are sustainable. Inclusive Growth: Improving living standards for farmers, youth, expatriates, and women. Constructive Criticism: Solving public grievances by remaining open to feedback.
The event was attended by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members, and top editors from the country’s leading print, electronic, and digital media outlets.
