The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) successfully thwarted attempts by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) to push seven individuals into Bangladesh early Friday, June 19.
The incidents took place along the Meherpur and Lalmonirhat borders. In Meherpur Sadar Upazila, locals spotted four people moving suspiciously near the Khalpara border under the Buripota Border Observation Post (BOP). They immediately alerted the BGB, who quickly deployed to the scene and blocked the entry. The four individuals—reportedly one man and three women—remain stranded at the zero line. Local sources suspect they were brought to the border from the Natna BSF camp area in West Bengal's Nadia district, though their nationalities remain unconfirmed.
Simultaneously, the BSF attempted to force three people across the border near international pillar 116 at Kalirhat in Patgram, Lalmonirhat. BGB personnel promptly intercepted and stopped this attempt as well.
In response to these recent border incidents, the BGB has intensified its patrols. Local villagers are also actively guarding the zero line to help prevent further illegal infiltrations.
Lieutenant Colonel Nazmul Hasan, Director of the 6 BGB Battalion, confirmed the Meherpur incident. "The BGB prevented an attempt to push four individuals into Bangladesh through the Khalpara area," he stated. "We will not allow any illegal push-in or infiltration."
