Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated a national training programme on Sunday aimed at integrating skills-based and technical education into the National University (NU) curriculum.
The initiative, titled “Inclusion of Skills-Based Education in National University Curriculum,” was officially launched by the Prime Minister at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Agargaon.
The programme is designed to develop a modern teaching workforce capable of delivering employment-oriented education. To support the revised curriculum, the NU has prepared 900 master trainers who will train 12,000 college teachers nationwide in phases.
Under the new academic framework, students will receive hands-on training in high-demand sectors, including freelancing, entrepreneurship development, digital marketing, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science. Officials noted that the initiative aims to boost the competitiveness of Bangladeshi graduates in both domestic and global job markets.
Speakers at the launch highlighted the necessity of vocational education, echoing the event’s central slogan: “We will receive skills-based education and work across the world.”
Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Education Mahdi Amin, and NU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. ASM Amanullah addressed the gathering. During the ceremony, university officials presented the Prime Minister with a commemorative crest and a sapling.
The event also featured the screening of a documentary highlighting the lives and national contributions of late President Ziaur Rahman, former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
