Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain warned that dengue patients are at high risk of severe bleeding this season.
Speaking at the launch of a three-month dengue prevention campaign at Dhanmondi’s Rabindra Sarobar on Saturday (June 6) morning, he urged the public to take immediate precautions. "Doctors fear dengue will take a terrible form this time, known as hemorrhagic dengue, which causes severe internal bleeding," the minister stated.
To control the outbreak, the government will deploy mobile courts within the next two to three days. The minister announced that any institution found harboring Aedes mosquito larvae during these drives will face strict financial penalties.
Meanwhile, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Abdus Salam emphasized the urgent need for community action. He noted that a recent DSCC survey identified 63 wards as at-risk for dengue, with 28 of those deemed high-risk zones.
Salam stressed that tackling the outbreak is a shared duty. "Dengue prevention is only possible if citizens and the City Corporation each take 50 percent of the responsibility," he said.
