Two cousins, including a retired army officer, were injured in a violent clash over a land boundary dispute in Phulbari upazila of Dinajpur on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. in the Damar More area of Betdighi Union. Both injured individuals—Ataur Rahman, 48, a retired army officer, and his cousin Firoz Hossain, 55—are currently receiving treatment at the Phulbari Upazila Health Complex.
According to local residents, the two families have a long-standing dispute over the boundary of a shared ancestral property.
Hospital sources confirmed that Ataur Rahman sustained severe injuries, including a head wound. Ataur alleged that Firoz and his brother, Mamunur Rashid, attacked him when he tried to measure the land to prevent them from forcibly fencing it off.
Denying the accusation, Mamunur stated the physical altercation began when Ataur attempted to tear down their existing tin fence. He noted that his brother, Firoz, was also injured during the resulting scuffle.
Phulbari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shah Abdul Latif confirmed that Ataur verbally reported the incident. "We have not yet received a written complaint," the OC said. "Legal action will be taken subject to an investigation once a formal complaint is filed."
Tension remains high in the area following the altercation.
