The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) organized an anti-drug procession and rally in Phulbari, Dinajpur, on Wednesday, calling for a united effort to build a drug-free society.
Organized by the Upazila BNP and its affiliated bodies, the program began at 10:30 am. An anti-drug march, led by senior party leaders, started from the BNP’s temporary office at Thana More, paraded through the city's main roads, and concluded with a rally at Nimtala More.
Barrister AKM Kamruzzaman Zaman, former vice-president of the UK BNP and personal legal advisor to BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, addressed the gathering as the chief guest. He emphasized the critical need to protect the youth from substance abuse.
"Today's young generation is the future of our country. Drugs destroy a nation. Therefore, everyone must work together to protect our youth from this menace," Zaman said.
He also issued a stern warning against criminal activities, declaring a zero-tolerance policy for drug addicts, dealers, terrorists, and extortionists. He urged citizens from all professions to step forward in establishing a peaceful community.
Upazila BNP President Principal Khurshid Alam Moti presided over the event, echoing the call for a strong social movement against drugs. Several other local leaders—including Upazila BNP Senior Vice President Principal Md. Nabiul Islam, Municipal BNP President Abul Bashar, and representatives from Jubo Dal, Sramik Dal, and Volunteer Dal—also addressed the gathering.
