The High Court has granted bail to Sanatani Jagran Jot spokesperson Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in two criminal cases. However, he will remain in prison for the time being due to other pending charges.

A High Court bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher delivered the verdict on Sunday. The bench declared a previous rule on his bail absolute regarding two cases involving attempted murder, vandalism and obstructing government work.

Defense lawyer Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya, who argued the case alongside Deputy Attorney General Syeda Sajia Sharmin representing the state, clarified Chinmoy's legal standing. He stated that Chinmoy currently faces six criminal cases. While he secured bail in two, his release is blocked because his bail in a sedition case remains suspended and he is facing trial for the murder of a lawyer in Chattogram.

The remaining two cases will see a bail hearing on August 16.

Chinmoy was arrested in Dhaka on November 25, 2024, in a sedition case filed by a local politician over the alleged desecration of the national flag in Chattogram. The following day, clashes erupted over his bail hearing for the hacking death of lawyer Saiful Islam. The victim's father subsequently filed a murder case implicating 31 individuals, leading to a cascade of additional charges against Chinmoy with assault and explosive offenses. He has remained incarcerated since his initial arrest.
