The High Court has rejected the bail application of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatani Jagran Jote, in one of five pending cases. The court is scheduled to deliver verdicts on his bail applications for the remaining four cases, including a murder charge, this Monday (May 11).

On Sunday, the High Court bench of Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher passed the order. This follows a rule issued by the court on September 1 last year. After concluding hearings last Thursday, the bench set today for the initial ruling. Advocate Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya represented Chinmoy Krishna Das during the proceedings.

Chinmoy Krishna was previously granted bail by the High Court on April 30, 2024, in a sedition case involving allegations of insulting the national flag. However, he was subsequently arrested in connection with five other cases, including murder.

The legal proceedings stem from an October 31, 2024, sedition case filed by Firoz Khan, a BNP leader from Chittagong’s Chandgaon Mohra Ward. Chinmoy Krishna was arrested on November 25, 2024. His initial bail hearing on November 26 sparked violent clashes on the Chittagong court premises, resulting in the death of lawyer Saiful Islam.
