Attorney General Md. Ruhul Quddus Kazal announced on Wednesday that the state will appeal the High Court’s verdict directing the establishment of an independent secretariat for the Supreme Court.
Speaking to reporters, the Attorney General confirmed that the petition will be filed soon to seek a final ruling from the Appellate Division.
"Under Article 103 of the Constitution, the High Court can issue a certificate if a case involves significant constitutional interpretation," Kajal explained. "We have sought this certificate because the matter requires a final settlement by the highest court."
The move follows a landmark 185-page verdict released on April 7 by a High Court bench comprising Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury. The court had ordered the government to set up a separate secretariat for the judiciary within three months.
Crucially, the verdict also shifted the authority over the discipline and control of subordinate court judges back to the Supreme Court, aiming to ensure greater judicial independence.
