At least 25 people were injured when a passenger bus lost control and plunged into a water-filled ditch in Faridpur’s Bhanga upazila on Sunday afternoon.

The accident occurred near the Bablatla bus stand on the busy Faridpur-Barishal highway.

Locals, joined by the Bhanga Fire Service and Highway Police, conducted an hour-long rescue operation. The injured were initially taken to Bhanga Hospital. Six passengers in critical condition were later transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Bhanga Highway Police Sub-Inspector Hasanuzzaman stated that the Barishal-bound bus originating from Dhaka skidded off the road due to heavy rainfall.

"We rushed to the spot immediately upon receiving the information and rescued the passengers" SI Hasanuzzaman said. "While recovering the submerged vehicle will take some time we are confident no one is trapped underneath."

Bhanga Fire Station Manager Abu Zafar confirmed that the slippery road conditions caused the crash also corroborating that approximately 25 passengers sustained injuries in the incident. Law enforcement has secured the area to manage highway traffic while recovery efforts for the vehicle continue.
