Rail communication on the Chittagong route has been temporarily suspended after the Sylhet-bound Paharika Express crashed into a sand-laden mini-truck stuck on the tracks in Mirsarai this morning. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
The incident occurred around 9:00 am on Sunday (June 7) at the Sonapahar Mama Fakir Mazar railway crossing in Jorarganj.
According to local witnesses, the truck stalled while crossing the tracks. Seeing the approaching train, the driver and helper swiftly abandoned the vehicle, narrowly escaping. The train collided violently with the truck, crushing the vehicle and dragging the wreckage for nearly half a kilometer before coming to a halt.
Sajjad Hossain, a passenger on the train that had departed Chittagong at 8:00 am, described a sudden loud crash that triggered panic throughout the carriages. "When the train finally stopped, many of us rushed out to check the situation," he said, adding that no passengers were harmed.
Sirajul Islam, Station Master of Chinki Astana Railway Station, confirmed the incident. He stated that the mangled truck became wedged against the train's engine, making immediate removal impossible and blocking both rail lanes.
Railway authorities are currently working to clear the wreckage and restore normal train operations.
