A CNG-powered autorickshaw was crushed by the Dhaka-bound Sonar Bangla Express at the Kadamtali railway gate in Chittagong city today, leaving the autorickshaw driver injured.
The accident occurred around 12:30 PM on Monday (May 18) near the entrance of Chittagong Railway Station.
According to eyewitnesses, the Sonar Bangla Express (Train No. 788) was entering the station when the autorickshaw attempted to rush across the tracks ahead of the oncoming train.
A railway official on duty stated that the loco master repeatedly blew the whistle to warn the driver after the vehicle got onto the tracks. However, because the train could not stop within such a short braking distance, the collision was unavoidable.
Following the incident, Railway and Traffic Police personnel cleared the damaged vehicle from the tracks to normalize train operations.
Mohammad Rafiqul Hasan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chittagong Railway Police Station, confirmed that the injured CNG driver was rescued and rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Local residents noted that vehicles frequently cross the Kadamtali railway gate recklessly and urged authorities to strengthen surveillance and security measures at the crossing.
