A court in Nalchiti, Jhalakati, has sent a woman to jail for filing a false sexual assault case against her father-in-law. The accused father-in-law was also granted bail.

The order was issued on Monday afternoon by Judge HM Kabir Hossain of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Jhalakati. The information was confirmed by Nalchiti court lawyer and police General Registration Officer (GRO) Enamul Haque.

According to court sources, 65-year-old Nurul Islam, also known as Nuru Sardar, of Ishwarkati village in Bhairabpasha union, Nalchiti upazila, was arrested on Thursday following allegations made by his daughter-in-law.

The woman filed the case on the night of May 12, accusing her father-in-law of sexually assaulting her while she was staying in a separate room due to chickenpox.

After hearing both sides, the court found inconsistencies in the allegations, ordered the plaintiff to be sent to jail, and granted bail to the accused.

Defense lawyer Akkas Sikder said the court took action after the allegations were found to be false.
