A press conference was held at the Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center in Nageshwari, Kurigram, demanding the transfer of all project personnel—including teachers and education caretakers of the mosque-based children and mass education program—into the revenue sector.
The program was organized by the Upazila Moushik Shiksha Kalyan Parishad. Speakers said a memorandum will be submitted to the Prime Minister through the local Member of Parliament and the Upazila Nirbahi Officer.
Parishad President Saifur Rahman and General Secretary Abu Bakkar Siddique spoke at the event.
In written statements, they said the program began in 1993 during the tenure of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. They claimed it has played an important role in expanding religious education, promoting moral values, and supporting literacy efforts across the country.
They also stated that millions of students have benefited through different phases of the project, though exact figures were not clearly specified in the briefing. Currently, around 71,949 teachers and staff are reportedly engaged in the program, receiving modest honorariums.
Speakers added that project personnel have also contributed to social awareness activities, including campaigns on vaccination, drug abuse prevention, child marriage, witchcraft, and corruption.
They said that despite their long service, the workers are facing job insecurity, which they described as a threat to their livelihood and dignity.
At the end of the press conference, a memorandum was formally submitted to local authorities.
