At least eight people were killed and 25 others injured after a cargo train slammed into a public bus at a railway crossing in central Bangkok on Saturday afternoon, triggering a massive fire that destroyed multiple vehicles.
The collision occurred around 3:40 PM local time near the Airport Rail Link's Makkasan station on Asok-Din Daeng Road. Emergency responders and firefighters rushed to the scene in the Ratchathewi district as intense flames quickly engulfed the passenger bus, nearby cars, and motorcycles trapped at the crossing.
Footage from the scene showed firefighters using water hoses to battle the raging blaze and intermittent explosions while rescue teams cut through the charred wreckage to pull out victims.
Officials confirmed that the fire has been brought under control. Rescue crews have secured the area, vented hazardous gases, and completed a primary search of the vehicles. Police have launched an immediate investigation into the cause of the fatal crash.
