


Ataur Rahman Bachchu, Member of Parliament for the Narail-2 constituency, has inaugurated the re-excavation of the 'Krishnapur Canal' in Joypur Union and the 'Lahuria Canal' in Lahuria Union. The projects fulfill a key electoral promise aimed at improving local water management.
The inauguration ceremony, organized by the upazila administration, took place on Sunday (May 17) at around 4 PM at the Gobindapur Tri-Mohana area. MP Ataur Rahman Bachchu attended as the chief guest, with Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shammi Kaiser presiding over the event.
Prominent local leaders attended the ceremony, including Narail Zilla Parishad Chairman Bir Muktijoddha Mostafizur Rahman Alek, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sushmita Saha, Lohagara Upazila BNP Acting President Md. Himayet Hossain, Upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Hadiuzzaman, Lohagara Municipality BNP Acting President Mollah Nazrul Islam, Lohagara Upazila Jubo Dal Convener Khan Mahmud Alam, and Joypur Union Parishad Chairman Saiful Islam Sumon.
According to the Upazila Project Implementation Office (PIO), the government has allocated ৳1 crore 13 lakh 33 thousand 639 for the re-excavation of 1.75 kilometers across the two canals. This includes 650 meters of the Krishnapur Canal and 1,100 meters of the Lahuria Canal.
Following the event at Krishnapur, the MP moved to the Sarshuna Qawmi Madrasa area to formally launch the Lahuria Canal excavation.
Addressing the local community, MP Bachchu emphasized public oversight: "This canal belongs to you. It is your responsibility to monitor the quality of the work. If you notice any irregularities, inform us immediately, and we will take swift action."
