Helper killed, 4 injured in Narail pickup-trolley collision

A pickup van helper was killed and four workers were injured in a head-on collision between a pickup and a trolley in Narail Sadar Upazila on Monday morning.

The accident occurred around 10:15 am in front of the Taltola Ghoshbari Rural Electricity Office on the Narail-Dhaka Highway.

The deceased was identified as Manjurul Islam Babu, a resident of Satkhira Sadar.

The injured are Inamul (19), Hussain (18), Akash (18), and Akash Khan (21), all from nearby villages in Narail.

Police and eyewitnesses said a speeding trolley and a pickup collided head-on while travelling on the highway. The pickup helper died on the spot. Locals later rescued the injured and sent them to Narail District Hospital.

Eyewitness Ohidur Rahman said two trolleys were racing toward Lohagara at high speed when one of them hit the pickup coming from the opposite direction.

Duty doctor Alok Kumar Bagchi said four injured victims were admitted to Narail Sadar Hospital. Enamul is in critical condition and has been referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Narail Highway Police OC Md. Sekender Ali said legal procedures are underway and the body will be handed over to the family. Both vehicles have been seized.
