


Shah Alam (48), an inmate of Faridpur District Jail and an accused in a drug case, died while undergoing treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital early Sunday.
He was declared dead at around 1:30 am on May 17 at the hospital’s prison ward. Shah Alam, son of Jalal Mollah of Kalibari Road in Alfadanga Upazila Sadar, was sent to Faridpur District Jail on April 1 through a court order in connection with a drug case.
According to jail authorities, Shah Alam had been suffering from stomach pain and other health complications for the past four days. He was receiving treatment at the jail hospital ward. As his condition worsened late Saturday night, he was taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital around 12:30 am, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead an hour later.
Faridpur Jail Superintendent Shawkat Hossain Mia confirmed the matter and said the deceased’s family members had been informed.
He also said an unnatural death case was filed with Faridpur Kotwali Police Station on Monday morning by Monir Hossain on behalf of the district authorities. The body will be handed over to the family after an autopsy.
