


The Porsha Upazila branch of the National Indigenous Council held its triennial conference on Friday also bringing together local community members to demand constitutional recognition, land rights and enhanced social security.
The day-long event began with a colorful rally from the Nitpur Union helipad. Participants marched through the main streets before gathering at the Nitpur Government Model School and College grounds for a formal discussion meeting.
Presided over by outgoing Upazila branch President Ganesh Mardi, the meeting featured Md. Mostafizur Rahman, Member of Parliament for Naogaon-1 (Porsha, Sapahar and Niamatpur), as chief guest.
Speakers emphasized the urgent need for unity to safeguard indigenous land rights, ensure physical and economic safety and secure constitutional rights for ethnic minority communities in the region.
Special guests included Porsha Upazila BNP Acting President Motahar Hossain Sufi Shah, General Secretary Sadekul Islam, former Vice-President Taufiqur Rahman Shah Chowdhury alongside indigenous leaders Bimal Chandra Rajowar and Rupchan Lakra.
The conference concluded in the afternoon with the announcement of a new committee for a three-year term. Prominent indigenous leader Gabesh Toppo was elected as President with Ripon Das named as General Secretary.
