Customs intelligence and law enforcement agencies have sealed four warehouses in South Gulshan belonging to Sheikh Nur Islam the father-in-law of YouTuber Salman Muqtadir after allegations of illegally storing duty-free alcohol.
According to the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Toss Bond Private Limited a diplomatic bonded warehouse supplying duty-free alcohol to foreign diplomats had only two declared facilities. Officials discovered that the company was illegally storing imported goods across four sites.
A joint raid conducted overnight from Thursday to Friday by the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID), the Department of Narcotics Control and the Special Response Battalion (SRB) resulted in all four facilities being sealed to prevent illegal distribution.
Toss Bond has been under surveillance for months over allegations of selling duty-free alcohol on the open market. Intelligence agencies have also uncovered evidence of undisclosed Canadian citizenship with suspicious transactions and ownership interests linked to Nur Islam and his wife Shila Islam and daughter Tasnim Islam.
Financial intelligence officials reviewed 163 records spanning 2012 to 2022, uncovering remittances worth approximately Tk.9.5 billion in a single year. The Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) confirmed multi-agency tax, VAT and customs investigations are underway.
Officials clarified that the operation is strictly focused on financial irregularities and bonded warehouse violations also unrelated to recent controversial public statements or land dispute incidents involving content creator Salman Muqtadir.
