Seasonal fruits were distributed among the inmates of Faridpur District Jail on Wednesday morning to ensure a more humane environment and support their nutrition.
According to prison sources, there are currently 1,142 male and 48 female prisoners in the facility. To meet their nutritional needs and support their well-being the prison authorities distributed 7,000 litchis and 7,000 mangoes.
Jail Superintendent Shawkat Hossain Mia and District Superintendent Monir Hossain oversaw the distribution. They also inspected the prison facility and inquired about the welfare of the inmates.
"Following the directives of the Prisons Department, we regularly implement welfare measures to protect the dignity and health of the prisoners," said Jail Superintendent Shawkat Hossain Mia. "In addition to balanced meals, medical care and rehabilitation, we wanted to provide them with these seasonal summer fruits."
He added that modern prisons function as correctional and rehabilitation centers rather than just places of punishment, focusing on programs that help inmates successfully reintegrate into society.
