The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast gusty winds of up to 60 km/h and thundershowers for four regions—Bogra, Tangail, Mymensingh, and Sylhet—by noon on Thursday (June 4). Inland river ports in these areas have been instructed to hoist warning signal number one.
Meanwhile, a western low-pressure system currently extends from West Bengal to the north Bay of Bengal. The southwest monsoon is expected to advance to the Teknaf coast within the next 72 hours, which will likely bring increased rainfall to the southeastern parts of the country.
Over the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected across the Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions. The Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barisal divisions may also experience scattered light to moderate showers.
Despite the approaching rain, a mild to moderate heatwave continues to sweep across Chandpur, Noakhali, Brahmanbaria, and parts of the Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Khulna divisions. However, meteorologists expect both day and night temperatures to drop slightly nationwide as rainfall increases.
Safety Advisory: Authorities strongly advise the public to avoid open fields, water bodies, and high ground during thunderstorms. Farmers, fishermen, and boaters should take extra precautions and remain in safe shelters during heavy weather.
