A dispute over a poultry farm in the residential area of Uttar Saluwa in Paikgachha’s Haridhali Union has taken a concerning turn, with the primary complainant now alleging severe intimidation.
Residents have long suffered from the farm's strong stench, poor waste management, and severe mosquito infestations. The resulting environmental pollution poses serious health risks, particularly to children, the elderly, and those with respiratory issues.
Seeking relief, local resident Ramprasad Karmakar recently filed a written complaint with the Paikgachha Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) on behalf of the community. In response, the UNO directed the Upazila Sanitary and Safe Food Officer to investigate and take necessary action.
Upazila Sanitary Officer Uday Mandal visited the site and confirmed the validity of the locals' grievances. However, since the investigation began, Karmakar reports receiving continuous threats of physical violence, harassment, and stalking. Farm operators have allegedly blamed him for damaging their business.
Fearing for his family's safety, Karmakar is currently preparing to file a General Diary (GD) with the local police station.
Meanwhile, residents are urging the administration to permanently address the health hazards caused by the farm and ensure the complainant's safety. The community is now waiting to see if a public interest complaint will be resolved fairly, or if the whistleblower will be silenced by intimidation.
