The Bangladesh Coast Guard seized two wooden boats carrying three tons of smuggled mineral coal during an operation in the Karnaphuli River near Ghat No. 15 in Patenga, Chittagong.

Coast Guard East Zone Media Officer Lt. Commander Suman Al Mukit confirmed the seizure in a statement on Wednesday (June 3).

Acting on a tip-off, the Patenga Coast Guard Outpost conducted the raid on Tuesday afternoon. They confiscated the coal, valued at approximately Tk 5.10 lakh, along with the two boats used in the smuggling attempt.

The smugglers fled the scene after sensing the Coast Guard's presence. Authorities are currently initiating legal action regarding the seized items.

Lt. Commander Mukit stated that the Coast Guard will continue regular operations to strictly curb smuggling in the region.
