The Intern Doctors Association of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CHMEC) has announced a six-point demand and given the government 48 hours to act.
The association warned that if the demands are not addressed within the deadline, doctors may launch a larger movement.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by the association's Office Secretary, Dr. Mohammad Irfanur Rahman, on Wednesday (June 4).
In the statement, intern doctors strongly opposed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare's May 19 decision regarding FCPS training. They described the decision as unreasonable and demanded its immediate withdrawal and replacement with revised instructions.
The association also called for a Health Worker Safety Act to ensure the security of doctors and healthcare workers. It demanded that crimes against health professionals be tried through speedy trial tribunals.
Among its other demands are increasing the monthly allowance of intern doctors to Tk 30,000, upgrading private trainee doctors' salaries to Grade-9 status, and introducing a structured pay scale for private-sector physicians.
The doctors further demanded raising the entry age limit for BCS cadres to 34 years, turning the BMDC Ordinance 2025 into a permanent law, and taking strict action against fake and unauthorized medical practitioners.
They also called for setting the maximum admission examination fee for BCPS and Bangladesh Medical University at Tk 1,000.
According to the statement, these demands are necessary to protect the professional dignity of doctors and improve healthcare services. The association warned that stricter programs will be announced if the demands remain unmet.
