Residents of the capital should prepare for potential rain or thunderstorms today, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD). In a bulletin issued Tuesday morning, the Storm Warning Center noted that while the sky may remain partly cloudy, there is a strong possibility of precipitation across Dhaka and surrounding areas over the next six hours.
The city is experiencing shifting wind patterns. Normal winds are blowing from the south/southeast at 10–15 km/h, but the BMD warned of sudden westerly or northwesterly gusts reaching speeds of 30–40 km/h. Despite the rain prospects, daytime temperatures are expected to rise slightly.
At 6:00 am today, the temperature in Dhaka was recorded at 27.2°C with a high humidity level of 88%. This follows a maximum temperature of 28.6°C on Monday and a minimum of 24.1°C recorded early Tuesday. Dhaka saw 8 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours leading up to this morning.
The rain is not limited to the capital. Light to moderate rain, accompanied by gusty winds and lightning, is expected in many parts of the Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions. Similar conditions may also affect parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna, and Barishal.
Forecasters have highlighted the risk of moderate to heavy falls in specific areas of the eastern and central divisions. Nationwide, day and night temperatures are expected to remain relatively stable.
