Members of the Faridpur Press Club held a view-exchange meeting with the newly appointed Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Faridpur, Mazharul Islam, on Wednesday evening at the Journalist Liaquat Hossain Auditorium.
Press Club President Kabirul Islam Siddiqui chaired the event, with DC Mazharul Islam attending as the chief guest. General Secretary Mahbub Hossain Piyal moderated the session, which began with floral greetings welcoming the new DC.
Senior journalists and freedom fighters—including Aminur Rahman Farid, Mizanur Rahman Manik, Mofiz Imam Milon, and Zahid Ripon—addressed the gathering. They highlighted the current challenges of local journalism, calling for effective steps to curb unprofessional practices and protect the rights of mainstream reporters.
Noting the Press Club’s legacy since its establishment in 1965, speakers emphasized the need for objective, public-interest journalism over "signboard-based" reporting. "Journalists will never compromise on truth and justice; we will always call white as white and black as black," the speakers affirmed.
The discussion also focused on the district's overall development and the improvement of public services. Journalists presented various public-interest issues to the new Deputy Commissioner, highlighting the media's constructive role in regional development.
In response, DC Mazharul Islam assured all-out support from the local administration. He stressed that strong coordination between the administration and the media is vital to accelerate district development, ensure good governance, and promote public welfare. He expressed his firm commitment to working closely with journalists in the coming days.
Journalists representing various print, electronic, and online media outlets in the district attended the event.
