Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited the family of eight-year-old Ramisa Akter on Thursday night to offer his condolences over her tragic murder in Dhaka’s Pallabi area. The premier arrived at their residence around 9:50 pm to console the grieving family.
Earlier in the day, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed assured the public that those responsible for the brutal killing would face swift and exemplary punishment.
Ramisa, a second-grade student, was murdered on Tuesday. According to police, a neighbour named Sohel Rana lured the child into his flat after she left her home in the morning. Her dismembered body was later discovered hidden inside the apartment—her remains placed under a bed and inside a bathroom bucket.
Following the discovery, locals detained Sohel’s wife, Swapna Akter, but Sohel managed to escape by cutting through a window grill. Police successfully tracked and arrested him in the Fatullah area of Narayanganj on Tuesday evening.
On Wednesday, the accused delivered a formal confessional statement before a Dhaka court.
