The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has deployed personnel across Bangladesh, including Dhaka, to ensure strict security for Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day observances. The deployment began today and will continue through February 22.
At a briefing at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka University, RAB Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman said comprehensive measures have been taken to prevent any untoward incidents.
“RAB has taken all necessary steps to maintain law and order, especially around the Shaheed Minar. We are fully prepared to respond to any situation,” he said. He added there are no specific security threats associated with the observance.
Special arrangements are in place at the Shaheed Minar, where the President and Prime Minister are scheduled to lay wreaths. RAB teams will operate alongside other law enforcement agencies, with observation posts, watchtowers, and checkpoints across the city. CCTV and IP cameras will monitor the inner and outer perimeters through dedicated control rooms.
The Bomb Disposal Unit and Dog Squad will conduct security sweeps, while RAB’s Special Force remains on standby 24/7. Security has also been enhanced at Shaheed Minars in all major cities, districts, and upazilas hosting Ekushey programs, including wreath-laying ceremonies, discussions, and cultural events.
Intelligence measures include the deployment of plainclothes officers to prevent banned organization members from entering Shaheed Minar areas and creating disturbances. All RAB battalions will coordinate with local representatives and law enforcement, while RAB Headquarters control room will monitor nationwide security arrangements.
The DG urged the public to cooperate and report any suspicious activity to the nearest patrol or RAB commander to ensure prompt action.
RAB remains committed to ensuring a peaceful and dignified observance of this historic day across the country.
