The Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) observed Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day 2026 on Saturday at its headquarters in Gazipur.

The day’s programs began with the hoisting of the national flag at half-mast and the wearing of black badges. A morning procession (Prabhat Pheri) toured the campus, followed by the laying of wreaths at the Shaheed Minar. Director (Research) Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam and Director (Administration and General Services) Dr. Munnujan Khanam led the tribute on behalf of the institute.

During a discussion session, Dr. Munnujan Khanam urged the participants to be inspired by the spirit of Ekushey to advance the nation. As part of the commemorations, the directors also unveiled a commemorative wall at the local school and distributed prizes to the winners of a student painting competition.

The day concluded with a Quran recitation and special prayers at the BRRI Central Jame Mosque, seeking peace for the souls of the 1952 language martyrs.
