Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md. Raihan Kabir led the district in paying profound tribute to the heroes of the 1952 Language Movement in the early hours of International Mother Language Day.
At 12:01 AM, the DC placed a wreath at the Chashara Central Shaheed Minar, marking the start of Amar Ekushey observances. Following the placement of flowers, a solemn silence was observed in honor of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the dignity of the Bengali language.
The ceremony was attended by senior district officials, including the Superintendent of Police, Civil Surgeon, and the Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer. Special prayers were offered for the departed souls of martyrs Salam, Barkat, Rafiq, Jabbar, and others.
"The struggle to establish the rights of our mother tongue is a glorious chapter in our history," DC Raihan Kabir stated. "The seeds of our independence were sown in the sacrifices of 1952. We must remain united to uphold the dignity of our language and build the nation based on these ideals."
Throughout the day, various political, social, and cultural organizations continued to lay wreaths at the Shaheed Minar. Educational institutions across the district also organized discussion meetings, poetry recitations, and cultural programs to commemorate the day.
