Intestinal parasites are microscopic organisms that can spread through contaminated food, water, or poor hygiene. Although they are often associated with low-income countries, parasitic infections occur worldwide. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), millions of people are affected by different parasitic infections each year.

Some parasitic infections may cause stomach pain, diarrhea, nausea, weight loss, fatigue, or nutritional deficiencies. In severe cases, they can lead to serious health complications. However, anyone with persistent symptoms should seek medical advice, as home remedies should not replace proper diagnosis or treatment.

Some foods and natural ingredients have traditionally been used to support digestive health and may have properties that help the body fight certain parasites. Scientific evidence varies, and more research is needed.

  • Garlic: Contains compounds that may help combat certain parasites, including Giardia, in laboratory studies.
  • Onion: Rich in sulfur-containing compounds that may have antimicrobial properties.
  • Extra Virgin Coconut Oil: Contains healthy fats that support overall gut health.
  • Oregano Oil: Laboratory research suggests it has antimicrobial effects, but it should be used cautiously and only in recommended amounts.
  • Pineapple: Contains bromelain, an enzyme that may aid digestion and has shown potential anti-parasitic activity in some studies.
  • Aloe Vera: Traditionally used to support digestion, though evidence for treating parasites is limited.
  • Almonds: Provide healthy fats and nutrients that support digestive health.
  • Pumpkin Seeds: Traditionally used as a natural deworming food and may help expel certain intestinal worms.
  • Papaya Seeds: Some small studies suggest they may help reduce intestinal parasites, but larger clinical trials are needed.

A balanced diet, safe drinking water, proper handwashing, and good food hygiene remain the most effective ways to reduce the risk of intestinal parasites.
