Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated a nationwide tree plantation initiative across government primary schools on Wednesday urging citizens especially children to actively participate in making Bangladesh greener.
Speaking at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre (BCFCC) in Dhaka, the premier officially launched the campaign by planting a Neem sapling. Organized by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education the initiative resulted in nearly 200,000 saplings being planted simultaneously at primary schools nationwide.
Addressing the students, PM Rahman encouraged them to plant at least one sapling annually at school or home. “We all should make an effort to make our country greener,” he stated. To foster environmental awareness, he advised children to use the internet to research how trees produce oxygen and benefit communities.
"When the trees planted at your school grow, they will provide you with shade," the Prime Minister said, adding that trees planted at home will ensure fresh air cool breezes and a better environment. Following the inauguration, he reviewed nature and environment projects created by primary school students.
The event was attended by senior government officials, including Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon and State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj.
