Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended the Primary Education Award 2026 ceremony on Wednesday morning at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Agargaon, Dhaka.
Organised by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, the event celebrated the culmination of nationwide student competitions. These initiatives were designed to foster children's talent and intellectual development, fulfilling pledges 17 and 18 of the government's election manifesto. Over 21.8 million primary students from Classes III to V participated in a variety of activities, including sports, cultural events, subject-based quizzes, Cub Scouting, and debates. The competitions advanced in phases from the upazila to the national level.
During the ceremony, the Prime Minister presented awards to the best-performing students. The event also recognised exceptional contributions to the education sector. Awards were distributed across 15 individual categories—selected from 12,384 nominees—and two institutional categories chosen from 65,546 institutions nationwide.
Alongside the awards presentation, the Prime Minister inaugurated a nationwide tree plantation campaign aimed at government primary schools across the country.
