Following directives from Health and Family Welfare Minister Alhaj Sardar Sakhawat Hossain Bakul, the Monohardi upazila administration has launched an urgent, coordinated effort to address severe infrastructure damage caused by recent heavy rains.
Continuous rainfall recently triggered widespread waterlogging, river erosion, and damaged roads across Monohardi Municipality and nearby unions. In response to public concerns raised on social media, Minister Bakul ordered immediate administrative intervention to ease public suffering.
Acting on this directive, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) M. A. Muhaimin Al Jihan convened an emergency Disaster Management Committee meeting on Tuesday. A joint delegation—comprising local officials, Water Development Board engineers, political leaders, and journalists—then inspected the hardest-hit areas.
The inspection covered critical damage, including erosion along the Chalakchar–Borchapa road, at-risk homes in Paikan village, and collapsed culverts in Kayatergaon. Officials also assessed severe waterlogging from the Monohardi Girls’ School intersection to Dreneghat.
Following the assessment, officials assured residents that immediate repairs and long-term infrastructure solutions will be executed through coordinated efforts between the upazila administration, Narsingdi Water Development Board, and local engineering departments. Concurrently, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Sajib Mia is directing targeted recovery efforts in Khidirpur Union.
Locals have expressed relief at the swift, unified response from the administration and local leaders, praising the minister’s timely intervention and the UNO's proactive crisis management.
