A major fire broke out early Wednesday at the Ananta Apparels Ltd fabric warehouse inside Narayanganj's Adamjee Export Processing Zone (EPZ).
Starting around 4:00 AM, the blaze was fueled by a large stockpile of fabrics and combustible materials, quickly spreading through the facility and causing panic among nearby factory workers. In response to the intensifying blaze, authorities deployed nine units from the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
After a strenuous three-hour effort, firefighters successfully brought the flames under control by 7:00 AM. Fortunately, authorities confirmed there were no casualties, though the fire destroyed a substantial quantity of raw materials and manufactured goods.
Senior Station Officer Miron Mia of the Adamjee Fire Service confirmed that damping-down operations are currently underway to eliminate remaining hotspots and prevent the fire from reigniting. An official investigation is pending to determine the exact cause of the fire—including whether stored chemicals contributed to its rapid spread—and to assess the total financial losses.
